|Title:||ASL Translator Interpreter Supervisor|
Reports to: Relay Center Manager
This position is responsible for supervising the TI team and ensuring the quality translation of all calls to and from individuals who are deaf, hard of hearing, or have difficulty speaking. All calls must be translated accurately, and all call content must be held in strict confidence.
- Ensures the effective translation between American Sign Language and English for relay calls.
- Ensures the accurate translation of relay calls, and that all calls are processed quickly and without deliberate alteration of the messages.
- Ensures that the “team” approach is utilized with relay operators and TI’s to provide relay users with accurate, timely and effective communication.
- Adheres to strict confidentiality rules and standards.
- Learns and adheres to proper Relay procedures.
- Reviews procedures and language, and construct tools to help understand and reference procedures and languages.
- Offers solutions and options when presenting problems or concerns to supervisors.
- Manages TI’s and resolves conflict directly, quickly and completely, and discusses unpleasant issues with courtesy and tact.
- Aids in researching and developing Culture Training. Assists with the development of State and Federal reports including FCC Re-Certification Applications.
- Stresses quality in all work situations.
- Works well without constant supervision.
- Regular attendance that is punctual and dependable is required.
- Maintains the TI schedules by ensuring proper coverage at all times, which can include working a variety of hours and volunteering for extra hours when needed.
- Actively participates in training events including Relay Operator meetings and seminars offered by the company.
- Performs and tracks Monthly Monitoring on all TI employees.
- Maintains all reporting required by the state and company.
- Aids in the hiring and training process of new TI’s.
- Performs other work-related duties as assigned.
Preferred education, experience, and skills:
- Associate’s Degree in Deaf Education Studies from a college or university; or three to five years related sign language interpreter experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Prior management experience is preferred.
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as procedure manuals, safety rules, and operating and maintenance instructions.
- Proficient in the understanding and use of American Sign Language (ASL).
- Possess a comprehensive understanding of Deaf Culture.
- Ability to translate between American Sign Language and English.
- Excellent written and oral/manual communication skills.
- Ability to pass a written certification test administered by the company.
