Position summary: 

This is a seasonal position, which will be responsible for assisting in the installation, repair, and maintenance of the outside plant telephone.  Additionally, this position will assist in the installation, repair, bonding, and grounding of underground and aerial cable, as well as the installation of conduit, pedestals, and other cable and wire related facilities; performs general building and grounds upkeep and equipment maintenance.

Essential functions:
• Backfills and compacts trenches using hand tools and power equipment.
• Pulls cable and wire through trenches and structural areas of buildings.
• Removes and replaces sod on easements.
• Works on a team with installers to test and repair outside cable plant; connects various test equipment to cable plant that indicate noise, power, and current.
• Communicates with internal and external customers to resolve service concerns and service questions.
• Installs, tests, repairs, and maintains outside plant facilities for telephone.
• Installs, repairs, and maintains copper and fiber facilities.
• Installs, repairs, operates, and maintains necessary test equipment for the testing of the outside plant.
• Bonds and grounds all types of telephone cable.

Other responsibilities: 
• General building and ground maintenance in and around local and remote company buildings.
• Performs general equipment maintenance such as repair or replacement of worn parts and general painting and lubrication of equipment.
• Participates and develops understanding of quality of service concepts in conjunction with overall company continuous improvement efforts.
• Responsible for buildings and grounds maintenance and appearance.
• Possess a willingness to be on call on both a scheduled and unscheduled basis.
• Performs other work-related duties as assigned.

Physical requirements:
• Ability to effectively work in extremes of heat and cold such as experienced in this locale.
• Ability to lift and move a minimum of 50 pounds and to utilize lifting equipment for additional weight.
• Ability to stand, crouch and kneel for long periods of time.
• Ability to manipulate and use hand tools.
• Ability to hear and see both auditory and visual commands from superiors and co-workers.
• Will be subject to substantial noise while operating some equipment.

Preferred education, experience, and skills:
• Interest in learning basic knowledge and understanding of telecommunications.
• Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English well.
• Ability to organize and prioritize work in order to meet deadlines.
• Strong written, verbal, analytical, and interpersonal skills.
