Reports to:  Outside Plant Manager

Position summary:  This is a combination position which will be responsible for the installation, splicing, repair and maintenance of the outside plant fiber. Communicate with internal and external customers in a respectful and conscientious manner to resolve service concerns and service questions.

Essential functions:

• Communicates with internal and external customers to resolve service concerns and service questions.
 
• Installs, tests, repairs and maintains outside plant facilities for Broadband.
 
• Install, repair and maintenance of fiber facilities.

• Good understanding of computers and internet browsers.
 
• Installs, repairs, operates and maintains necessary test equipment for the testing of the fiber plant.
 
• Obtain schooling and attends seminars relating to technical skills, customer service skills and management skills.

• Installs, tests, repairs, and maintain Internet equipment.
 
• Bonds and grounds of fiber cable.
 
• Works independently and as an effective member of a team.

 
Other responsibilities: 

• Works as a fiber cable splicer and with plant construction, as required.

• Responsible for buildings and grounds maintenance and appearance.

• Possess a willingness to be on call on both a scheduled and unscheduled basis.
 
• Performs similar work related duties as required.


Physical requirements:
 
• Ability to effectively work in extremes of heat and cold such as experienced in this locale.
 
• Ability to lift and move a minimum of 80 pounds and to utilize lifting equipment for additional weight.
 
• Ability to stand, crouch and kneel for long periods of time.

• Ability to work in confined spaces.

• Ability to manipulate and use hand tools.

• Ability to climb ladders and stairs on a regular basis.

• Ability to hear and see both auditory and visual commands from superiors and co-workers.

• Will be subject to substantial noise while operating some equipment.


Preferred education, experience, and skills:

• College, military or private industry course work in telecommunication troubleshooting, electronics and repair.

• Basic knowledge and understanding of computers and networking.
 
• Basic knowledge of fiber outside plant equipment and construction.
 
• Ability to read, write, speak and understand English well.
 
• Possess a valid Nebraska driver’s license with a good driving history.
 
• Ability to organize and prioritize work in order to meet deadlines.
 
• Strong written, verbal, analytical and interpersonal skills.

• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
